Why mountainbiking in the spring and summer is a great idea
Lots of bike fanatics trade their mountainbike in for a racing bike. Understandable, because cycle racing really is a summer sport. Yet it is a waste that mountainbikes get used less in the summer that way. Mountainbiking has a lot of fun sides to it that you don’t get to experience in the winter. SunRace made a list for you to see!
1. Variety in routes
Although many cycling enthusiasts enjoy being able to race again in the spring and summer, it can become boring after a month or two. By occasionally switching to your mountain bike in the summer, you avoid getting stuck in a rut with your cycling hobby. This also gives your body a different challenge amidst all the long rides. Plus, you get to bike in a different environment than on a racing bike: a nice change of pace!
2. Less mud = a different experience!
Speaking of typical mountainbike trails: in the fall and winter, many of them are partially covered in mud due to the bad weather that those seasons bring with them. In the spring and summer, the mud dries up and turns into hard ground or even loose sand, as a result, routes you thought you knew take on a completely different turn in the spring and summer. Reason enough to rediscover them in the summer!
3. The surroundings look beautiful
In addition to the changed terrain in the summer, the overall environment of a mountainbike trail looks different than in the winter! Trees are lush green, flowers ar ein bloom, and there are more animals to see and discover. Suddenly you see your usual routes from a completely different perspective!
4. You have more daylight time
While its often not a good idea to go mountainbiking in the dark during winter evenings, its actually excellent in the summer. With longer daylight hours, a beautiful evening ride suddenly becomes possible. It offers the chance to go for a ride after a day at work, or even on the weekend after a day of relaxation, The same goes for the mornings: The sun comes up earlier, so you can tackle am mountainbike trail even in the early hours.
5. Your mountainbike wears out less quickly.
Mountainbiking in the winter guarantees a lot of mud and other dirt on your bike. And while that’s part of the charm of the sport, it’s not always pleasant for the mountainbike itself. Especially if you don’t regularly clean and maintain the bike, components can wear out quickly in winter. You don’t have that problem as much in the summer. Because there’s a lot less mud and the weather is clearer, your bike stays much cleaner, resulting in less wear and tear
